THAT purple lipstick that I instagrammed… Do you ever feel that you are made to “pressure purchase” by pushy sales assistants? I had literally only swatched this purple lipstick in Mac and before I knew it, I was sitting in front of the mirror having it tried on me. I must admit, it didn’t look as bad as I had imagined it might. Somehow it ended up in amongst the other products I purchased. To start with, I felt very self-conscious and expected everybody to stare at me as I walked through the shopping mall. I was completely out of my comfort zone. To my surprise, nobody stared at me as if I had three heads. Maybe I didn’t look quite as horrendous as I thought? As the day went on, I grew to like it, even though it is a completely different colour to what I would normally reach for (usually pink or nude). The reaction it got on a picture I posted on Instagram was overwhelmingly positive, so I decided to dedicate my very first blog post to it: Mac’s Lavender Jade.
Lavender Jade is a matte finish lipstick, which is described on Mac’s website as “dirty mauve with gold pearl”. I’m not so sure I can see the gold pearl…
Sometimes, I find Mac’s matte lipsticks to be drying. Lavender Jade, however, glides on really easily and feels creamy and moisturising. It is also highly pigmented, as I have found with all Mac lipsticks. As it is a brighter shade, it does require some attention to ensure coverage all over the lips. It lasts well, but does require some topping-up throughout the day to keep the lips fully covered. Lavender Jade lipstick retails at £15.50 and is available online and in Mac stores.
I’m actually really glad that I bought this, and who knows, I may even be more daring with colours in the future! Would you ever wear a colour like this, or do you stick to what you know?
