Of course when I saw the word “mermaid” when I was looking at Jouer liquid lipsticks online, my finger couldn’t click fast enough to take a look at these products. Can you then imagine my excitement when I saw that some of the shade names of the mermaid collection included “unicorn” and “fairy“?! Who gives a monkeys what the shades look like – the names are cute, so they’re going in the shopping basket!
In all seriousness though, I honestly hadn’t really taken a close look at the shades, so it was almost like a lipstick lottery when they arrived.
The boxes are beautifully holographic and, well, what can only be described as mermaid-y (yes, that is now a word). Far too pretty to throw away (does anyone else keep all their make-up packaging?!)
When I opened the first box and saw “fairy”, I saw what I would describe as a sweet bubblegum pink colour. I was delighted… Until I opened the tube and swatched because… It’s metallic. Eek! Apart from Jeffree Star’s Chrysanthemum, I’ve never really worn metallic lip products because I’m not a huge fan. However, when “fairy” is on, the metallic element of the shade is actually quite subtle.
“Unicorn” is similar to the MAC Lavender Jade scenario, where I feel it’s not a shade I would have normally gone for (I’ve been going out my comfort zone a lot lately!) However, this is very similar to Lavender Jade shade-wise, just slightly brighter. Definitely one for all the mermaid lovers out there!
You really only need one coat of these products, as they apply well and are very lightweight. Applying a second coat can make them feel sticky/cakey and they start to almost crack on your lips (I learned this the hard way). Unlike some liquid lipsticks, I haven’t found these drying at all.
All in all, these are definitely worth the price, and “fairy” is winning in the metallic shade wars over Jeffree’s Chrysanthemum by a mile!
Have you used any of the Jouer Mermaid collection Liquid Lipsticks?
