It’s finally Spring! Hallelujah! Ok, in Scotland, Spring means that it’s only about 4 degrees warmer than Winter… And usually brings with it a lot of rain, but still there are lots of reasons to like it. Here are five reasons why…
Daffodils, tulips and beautiful cherry blossom, what is there not to love about pretty Spring flowers and trees?! In the shops, the bouquets are more colourful than in Winter, and are wrapped in nice Spring colours (yup, Spring colours exist!) Outside, buds are starting to bloom, leaves are appearing on the trees again and it’s just an all-round lovely Spring feeling!
So I may have exaggerated slightly when I said the temperature is only 4 degrees warmer than Winter in Scotland! I think last week, I saw the thermometer on my car reach 11 degrees Celsius, which was pretty darn toasty for the beginning of March. Heck, sometimes we don’t even see that temperature in Summer here! Although, it’s maybe not quite time to pack away the Winter coat quite yet, with all the torrential downpours we’re currently getting here, the air is definitely getting milder. Warmer weather definitely makes me happy.
OK, so I wouldn’t exactly say I like cleaning, but there’s something about Spring Cleaning that is oddly satisfying. I really enjoy having a clear out at this time of year, putting unwanted things to the charity shop or selling things on Gumtree for a bit of extra cash. Out with the old, and all that jazz… Well, I’ve got to keep making room for all those new shoes and handbags I keep buying, don’t I?!
Lighter Mornings (and Evenings)
As I have two dogs, I get up very early (read 5.45am) every day to walk them. Round about this time of year, the mornings start to become slightly lighter at that time, which means I’m not heading out in the dark. The extended light in the evenings is not only a plus for dog-walking, but also for being able to take photos for Instagram and blogging too. No more having to wait for the weekends and trying to grab the couple of hours of daylight available.
I have the biggest sweet tooth! I am ashamed to admit I would happily live off sweet food if I needed to. As soon as New Year is out the way I am secretly delighted when the Mini Eggs hit the shelves as that signals that Spring is definitely on the way! I have been whipping up some Spring and Easter themed treats in the kitchen this weekend. Keep your eyes peeled for the recipe of the calorific concoction below on my blog next week!
